Lake Pleasant Bass Fishing Post Cold Front in February

My buddy and I went to Lake Pleasant bass fishing post cold front last week in the middle of February.

Lake Pleasant Bass Fishing – How I Caught Them

The bite was really slow as the water temps had dropped after a cold front that came through before. We were still fishing in cloudy and windy conditions, but the bass wouldn’t hit a crankbait or a spinnerbait.

We also tried fishing with Texas rigged and drop-shot worms with no luck.

I even threw a jerkbait for a while, but the only fish that were caught all day came on a little swimbait on a ball head jig and a swimbait on an Okashira Screwhead.

This is not the only time that I have been getting skunked and fished a little swimbait to save the day.

How I Fished The Finesse Swimbaits

I would cast the swimbait right against the bank since the banks were so steep, and let the swimbait hit the bottom. I was fishing a 1/8-ounce head so the fall was a little slow.

Once the bait hit bottom I was slowly winding it back so that it was bumping bottom, but not being dragged on the bottom.

If you watch the video you will hear me click my button and disengage my reel from time to time to let out slack so that my bait would stay on or near the bottom.

All my bites came in 15-20 feet of water and right on the bottom.

I noticed that the chunk rock transitioning to either a hard bottom or smaller gravel is where my bites came from.

One of my biggest takeaways looking back is that we should have turned back around and worked the area I caught the first bass on again with swimbaits.

Before this, we were cranking and worming, but the bite came a few casts after I switched to that little swimbait.

I think if we had gone back and reworked that water where the bass could have been stacked up and staging that Lake Pleasant could have given up more bass.

Overall it was great to be out on the water and we learned some good lessons.

Hope you enjoyed and learned something from my Lake Pleasant bass fishing trip.

To your fishing success,
